How to Write a Prompt in 3 Parts

A simple Role, Context and Output method for writing clear AI prompts, with a worked example you can copy.

Why three parts

Most weak prompts are missing something: who the AI should act as, what the situation is, or what you want back. Splitting your prompt into three parts makes the gaps easy to spot.

Part 1: Role

Tell the AI who to be. A role sets the tone and level of detail. For example: 'You are a friendly science teacher for Grade 6 students.'

Part 2: Context

Give the topic, the audience, the length and any limits. Context is where you add details only you know, such as your audience or your style.

Part 3: Output

Say exactly what you want back: a script with six scenes, a table, three captions. A clear output format saves you a round of editing.

Put it together

Read the three parts as one prompt. If any part is vague, add one more detail. Then run it, review the result and refine.

Try it

Example prompt
You are a friendly science teacher for Grade 6 students.
Topic: why the sky looks blue. Keep it under 60 seconds. Mark any claim I should verify.
Give me a 5 scene script with one image prompt per scene.

AI-assisted content. Check facts before you publish.
